Studio Contemplates Senses

KUAN Studio takes its name from one of the divination symbols in the classic Chinese book the I Ching, which is also known as the book of contemplation. The firm, based in Montevideo, Uruguay, manifests this essence through projects that seem to encapsulate the nature of the senses as they relate to design: sight, smell, sound, and touch. An exploration of some of KUAN’s projects reveals how this materializes.

This enclosed patio presents silky smooth surfaces such as the wet bar in contrast with the scratchy cement walls and floors, meanwhile bathing the room in abundant indirect sunlight.

Light spilling into the loo blurs the boundaries between indoors and out.

KUAN continues the blurring method in these great rooms.
